Privacy Policy
This privacy policy applies to the BeFit Tracker app for mobile devices, together with any related services operated by Jon Brown (collectively, the “Application”). Jon Brown is hereby referred to as the “Service Provider”.
Information Collection and Use
BeFit Tracker does not require a BeFit Tracker account, and the Service Provider does not operate an app analytics service or developer-controlled database that receives your ordinary profile, food, health, goal, or tracker records. Information you enter into the Application is stored in the Application’s local container on your device unless you enable iCloud Sync or deliberately use an optional external service described below.
BeFit Tracker asks for a name and date of birth as profile preferences. These values are used within the Application for personalization and age-dependent calculations, including BMI-related calculations. They are stored with your other personal records in the local Application database and are not separately sent to the Service Provider.
Cookies and tracking technologies
The Application does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or a developer-operated analytics service. Apple and optional external services may process technical information needed to provide their services under their own terms and privacy practices when you choose to use those features.
Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data held by the Service Provider. Because ordinary Application data is stored on your device or in your private iCloud environment, the Service Provider will generally have no corresponding app account or personal-record database to retrieve or erase. The Service Provider can still explain the applicable device, iCloud, support-message, or third-party deletion steps. Contact hello@befittracker.app for assistance.
Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights. To exercise your CCPA/CPRA rights, contact the Service Provider at hello@befittracker.app.
Artificial Intelligence
The Application uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance user experience and provide certain features. The AI components may process user data to deliver personalized content, recommendations, or automated functionalities. All AI processing is performed in accordance with this privacy policy and applicable laws. If you have questions about the AI features or data processing, please contact the Service Provider.
The Service Provider may use contact information you voluntarily submit through a support or newsletter form to respond, send requested communications, or provide required notices. Information entered only into the Application’s local database is not available to the Service Provider for marketing communications.
The Application asks for a name and date of birth for local profile preferences and calculations. Providing information to optional external workflows is described separately below.
Third Party Access
The Application does not periodically transmit aggregated app-usage or health data to the Service Provider. Data is transmitted to another service only when required for an Apple platform feature you enable, an optional provider workflow you choose, a purchase, or a form you submit. Those cases are described in this Privacy Policy.
International Data Transfers
The Service Provider or its third-party service providers may transfer personal data to countries outside your country of residence, including outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, the Service Provider will use appropriate mechanisms.
- Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission
- Adequacy decisions or other legally recognized transfer mechanisms
- Your consent, where required and legally permitted
Data protection laws in other countries may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required by law, the Service Provider will apply appropriate safeguards and obtain any consent required for the transfer.
The Service Provider may disclose User Provided and Automatically Collected Information:
- as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process;
- when they believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect their rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request;
- with their trusted services providers who work on their behalf, do not have an independent use of the information the Service Provider discloses to them, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this privacy statement.
Opt-Out Rights
You can stop use of the Application by uninstalling it. Deleting the Application and its local application data removes the local BeFit Tracker database from that device. Uninstalling does not automatically delete records that have already synchronized to iCloud or information you deliberately submitted to another service.
To request deletion of your personal data, to withdraw consent, or to exercise any of your rights, contact the Service Provider at hello@befittracker.app.
Data Retention Policy
Personal records in the local Application database remain until you delete them or remove the Application and its local data. Records synchronized through iCloud may remain in your private iCloud database until they are deleted through a supported Application or Apple control. Information you deliberately submit to Formspree, Open Food Facts, an AI provider, or another external service is subject to that service’s retention practices. The Service Provider retains direct support correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain support history, meet legal obligations, or protect the Service Provider’s rights.
Data Deletion
BeFit Tracker has no separate Service Provider account to delete. To remove local information, delete your personal records in the Application or delete the Application and its local application data using the controls provided by iPhone, iPad, or Mac. If iCloud Sync is enabled, allow record deletions to synchronize before removing the Application from every device. Simply turning off sync or uninstalling the Application does not itself erase records already stored in iCloud.
For assistance identifying where information is stored, contact hello@befittracker.app. The Service Provider can delete support correspondence or other information actually held by the Service Provider, subject to legal obligations, but cannot directly erase information held only in your private iCloud database or an account you maintain with another provider.
Children
BeFit Tracker is a general health and wellness tracker and may be used by children with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian where required by applicable law. It is not designed as a social network or game and does not create a public profile from the name, date of birth, health, nutrition, or activity information entered into the Application.
A child’s profile and tracker information is stored locally unless iCloud Sync or an optional external service is enabled. Parents and legal guardians should supervise a child’s use, decide whether iCloud Sync and optional provider features are appropriate, and prevent submission of unnecessary personal information through support forms or third-party services. If a child sends personal information directly to the Service Provider through a support or contact form, a parent or guardian may request its deletion at hello@befittracker.app.
Security
The Service Provider is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of information it actually receives, such as support correspondence. Local Application records are protected by the security controls of your device. Information synchronized with iCloud or sent to an optional provider is also subject to that provider’s security practices. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
Data Breach Notification
If a data breach occurs that affects your personal data, the Service Provider will notify you in accordance with applicable legal requirements, including, where required, providing information about the nature of the breach and the steps being taken to address it.
BeFit Tracker feature-specific privacy details
The following details explain how particular BeFit Tracker features handle information. They supplement the general terms of this Privacy Policy.
iCloud Sync
If you enable Sync with iCloud, supported personal records, including profile identity, goals, preferences, custom foods, food logs, tracker records, and achievements, can reconcile through the private CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account across configured devices. Synchronization requires an available iCloud account, network access, and the feature enabled. The bundled food catalog is not uploaded as a replacement database; supported personal records, custom-food information, and stable catalog references synchronize.
BeFit Tracker synchronizes supported records through Apple CloudKit. These records are stored in the signed-in user’s private CloudKit database within BeFit Tracker’s iCloud container—not in a synchronization database owned or operated by the Service Provider. Apple states that third-party app data stored in iCloud is always encrypted in transit and encrypted on Apple’s servers.
BeFit Tracker currently stores synchronized information in standard CloudKit record fields. It does not apply a separate application-level encryption layer or use CloudKit’s optional encrypted-fields mechanism for every synchronized field. Consequently, BeFit Tracker does not claim that all synchronized data is end-to-end encrypted. Under Apple’s Standard Data Protection, Apple manages the encryption keys and can decrypt this data when required for services such as account recovery. If the user enables Advanced Data Protection, Apple states that CloudKit encrypted fields and assets receive end-to-end encryption; this does not convert BeFit Tracker’s standard CloudKit fields into encrypted fields.
A “private CloudKit database” describes the data’s CloudKit access scope: the records belong to the signed-in user’s private database and are not placed in BeFit Tracker’s public CloudKit database. It should not be interpreted as a claim that every field is end-to-end encrypted.
Health app access
On iPhone and iPad, BeFit Tracker can request read-only HealthKit access to supported steps, sleep, mindfulness, and cycle records. You control each authorization through Apple’s Health privacy settings. BeFit Tracker does not request permission to write those records to the Health app.
Camera, Photos, microphone, and speech
BeFit Tracker requests these permissions only for workflows you choose, such as scanning a barcode, capturing or selecting an image, setting a profile photo, contributing a product photo, or dictating a dish. Denying one of these permissions does not prevent unrelated manual tracking.
Optional external services
- Open Food Facts: Barcode lookup sends a barcode to Open Food Facts. If you explicitly contribute a product photo, the image and contribution details are sent to Open Food Facts using your contributor account.
- Recipe websites: Recipe discovery and parsing can request pages from external websites.
- Apple Intelligence: On compatible devices, Apple’s system model can help identify a likely dish query before recipe review.
- OpenAI and Anthropic: On Mac, you may connect your own provider API account. Supported text or image input is sent to the selected provider under that provider’s terms and privacy practices.
- Ollama: Supported image-model inference can be sent to a customer-run service on the Mac. Later recipe-page discovery can still use the internet.
- StoreKit: Apple processes purchase and restoration activity for in-app purchases.
- Formspree: Information and attachments you submit through the Report a Problem form are delivered through Formspree.
AI-assisted results
AI-assisted workflows can be incomplete or wrong. BeFit Tracker presents results for your review and does not save an assisted food or recipe until you accept it. Food-photo assistance does not calculate verified nutrition directly from pixels.
Information submitted to support
Bug reports can include contact details, device and operating-system information, descriptions, screenshots, and optional videos you choose to submit. Remove unrelated health or personal information before sending an attachment.
Changes
The Service Provider may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The Service Provider will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy with an effective date. Where required by law, the Service Provider will seek your consent to material changes before they take effect.
Previous versions of this Privacy Policy will be maintained and made available upon request by contacting the Service Provider at hello@befittracker.app.
This privacy policy is effective as of 2026-08-12
Your Consent
Where processing is based on consent, you provide that consent by affirmatively opting in to the relevant feature or action. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal. Processing based on other lawful bases is carried out as described above.
