BeFit Tracker Classic

Open a non-notarized Classic release

Use Apple’s supported Open Anyway process when Gatekeeper blocks an older BeFit Tracker Classic download.

Some preserved BeFit Tracker Classic releases predate Apple’s notarization process. On a compatible Mac, Gatekeeper may stop one of these apps with a message that Apple cannot check it for malicious software or that its developer cannot be verified.

Only continue when you trust the download.

Use this process only for a BeFit Tracker Classic archive downloaded from downloads.befittracker.app. Apple warns that overriding security settings for unchecked software carries risk. Do not use these steps for an app obtained from another website or shared by another person.

Before opening an older release

  1. Use the Classic release history to choose a preserved version.
  2. Check the minimum macOS and architecture shown on its download card. A minimum version does not guarantee that an old app will work on a newer Mac.
  3. Open the downloaded ZIP, then move the app into your Applications folder.
  4. Try to open the app normally once. When Gatekeeper displays the warning, choose Done or close the message.

Allow this release through Gatekeeper

  1. Choose Apple menu → System Settings.
  2. Select Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
  3. Scroll to the Security section.
  4. Find the message explaining that BeFit Tracker Classic was blocked, then click Open Anyway. Apple makes this button available for about one hour after the blocked opening attempt.
  5. Authenticate with your Mac login credentials when asked.
  6. Review the warning again and click Open only if the app name and downloaded version are the ones you expected.
The exception applies to this app.

After you approve it, macOS saves that app as an exception. You should not need to weaken Gatekeeper for every application or change system security from Terminal.

If Open Anyway does not appear

  • Try opening the app again, dismiss the warning, and immediately return to System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  • Confirm that you are signed in to an administrator account or can provide an administrator’s credentials.
  • A Mac managed by an employer or school may prevent security exceptions. Contact its administrator instead of trying to work around management settings.
  • Confirm that the release supports your Mac’s operating system and processor architecture.

Warnings you should not override

Stop if macOS says the app will damage your computer, contains malware, or has been modified or damaged. Those messages are different from the expected non-notarized-app warning. Delete that copy and report the affected download so it can be investigated.

Why only some Classic releases need this

Notarization became part of Apple’s modern Mac software checks after many early BeFit Tracker Classic versions had already shipped. Releases with a verified stapled Apple notarization ticket carry a Notarized ribbon in the Classic timeline. Older releases without that ribbon may require the one-app exception described above.
