Mac cleanup
Completely remove BeFit Tracker from Mac
Remove the new BeFit Tracker Mac app, its local database, caches, and shared-identifier container without deleting BeFit Tracker Classic data.
BeFit Tracker on Mac uses the same App Store identity as the iPhone and iPad app. Its bundle identifier is com.jonbrown.org.BeFit-iOS. A complete local removal includes the app itself, the new Tracker database, and files associated with that identifier.
Food logs, profile information, goals, history, user foods, favorites, collections, and other locally stored records will be removed. If iCloud Sync was enabled, synchronized records can return after reinstalling unless you separately delete the BeFit Tracker data stored in iCloud.
1. Quit and remove the app
- Quit BeFit Tracker completely.
- Open Applications in Finder.
- Move BeFit Tracker to the Trash.
- Do not empty the Trash until you have confirmed that you selected the new BeFit Tracker app, not BeFit Tracker Classic.
2. Remove the new Tracker’s local files
Open Terminal from Applications → Utilities. Run these commands one line at a time. They target the new app’s shared identifier and its named database files.
rm -rf -- "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.jonbrown.org.BeFit-iOS"
rm -rf -- "$HOME/Library/Caches/com.jonbrown.org.BeFit-iOS"
rm -f -- "$HOME/Library/Preferences/com.jonbrown.org.BeFit-iOS.plist"
rm -rf -- "$HOME/Library/Saved Application State/com.jonbrown.org.BeFit-iOS.savedState"
rm -f -- "$HOME/Library/Application Support/BeFit/BeFitUser.sqlite"
rm -f -- "$HOME/Library/Application Support/BeFit/BeFitUser.sqlite-wal"
rm -f -- "$HOME/Library/Application Support/BeFit/BeFitUser.sqlite-shm"
rm -f -- "$HOME/Library/Application Support/BeFit"/food_catalog_*_full.sqlite
rm -f -- "$HOME/Library/Application Support/BeFit"/food_catalog_*_cache.jsonBeFit Tracker Classic uses BeFit.dat. The commands above do not remove that file. Do not delete the entire ~/Library/Application Support/BeFit/ folder when Classic is installed on the same Mac.
Terminal normally displays no message when a listed file is removed successfully or was not present. Check every complete path before pressing Return; never replace it with a broader Library path.
3. Empty the Trash
After confirming that BeFit Tracker Classic remains in Applications if you use it, choose Finder → Empty Trash. Apple’s general Mac instructions are available in Delete or uninstall apps on Mac.
Optionally remove synchronized data from iCloud
Deleting local Mac files does not by itself delete supported records stored in BeFit Tracker’s private CloudKit database. For a complete account-level reset, first remove or disable BeFit Tracker on every connected device. Then open System Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage. If BeFit Tracker appears, select it and use the available control to delete its iCloud data.
If the app is installed again while synchronized records remain in iCloud, those records may be reconciled back into the newly created local database.
What remains with Apple
App Store purchase history and eligible non-consumable entitlements remain associated with the Apple Account. Removing the app and its local database does not erase those Apple-managed purchase records.
