Local Classic database
Protect your Classic data
Preserve BeFit Tracker Classic folders and personal foods before an update or troubleshooting step.
Classic stores its catalog, folders, personal foods, serving choices, and relationships together in a local database named BeFit.dat. Preserve that file before troubleshooting anything that could affect app data.
Removing or replacing BeFit.dat can remove personal foods and folders. Quit Classic and make a separate copy before moving, renaming, testing, or sharing the file.
Make a safety copy
- Quit BeFit Tracker Classic completely.
- In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder.
- Enter
~/Library/Application Support/BeFit/and press Return. - If that location is empty and the app came through a sandboxed distribution, check
~/Library/Containers/com.JonBrownDesigns.BeFitApp/Data/Library/Application Support/BeFit/. - Locate BeFit.dat.
- Copy the file to a separate folder or external drive. Keep the original in place.
- Name the copy with the date so it is easy to distinguish from the active database.
What a backup does not provide
Classic does not currently expose a verified general backup-and-restore interface. A Finder copy preserves the file before troubleshooting, but replacing an active database with another copy should be done only with specific support guidance. Classic data does not synchronize through iCloud and cannot be imported into the newer BeFit Tracker.
Never send a Classic database to support. If you want to discard an older installation and start with the refreshed Classic catalog, use the separate Move from an older BeFit Tracker to Classic procedure.
